Abstract： The invention provides a coating composition and a preparation method thereof. The coating composition comprises hydroxyl-containing fluororesin, an emulsifier, a pH regulator and water, the number-average molecular weight of the hydroxyl-containing fluororesin is 80,000 to 150,000, the content of a carboxyl monomer of the hydroxyl-containing fluororesin is 1.0 wt.% to 4 wt.%, and the fluorine content of the hydroxyl-containing fluororesin is 18 wt.% to 25 wt.%; optionally, the mass ratio of the hydroxyl-containing fluororesin to the emulsifier to the water is (40 to 50): (1 to 5): (50 to 60). According to the technical scheme provided by the invention, the problems of short activation period and slow drying of the two-component coating prepared from the existing water-based hydroxyl fluororesin are solved.
