	Abstract： The invention belongs to the field of lithium sulfur batteries and particularly relates to a lithium sulfur battery and a preparation method thereof. The lithium sulfur battery consists of a cathode, an anode, an isolating membrane, electrolyte and an external packing, wherein the cathode consists of a current collector and a coating layer; active substances in the coating layer at least contain one of elemental sulfur, sulfur-based compounds or sulfur compositions; the electrolyte is gel electrolyte which comprises a lithium salt, a solvent, an additive, a polymer component and an initiator; the polymer component comprises a macromolecular monomer or a macromolecular polymer which is grafted with acrylate groups to the maximum extent by taking a carbon atom as the center. Compared with the prior art, the lithium sulfur battery prepared from the polymer has better electrochemical performances (including capacity and circulating performance) and a higher safety performance (the self discharge speed is slower).
